
A fast, intuitive and capable kick drum synthesizer. Inspired by the likes of Kick 2 and BazzISM, I made Below The Belt as a one-stop-shop for kick synthesis. It is still in production and will be out soon. (Contact for BETA Testing). Comes with 67 top kick samples, created and fine tuned for the plugin by myself.
Below the Belt is a parametric kick drum synthesizer that generates sub-bass weight and transient punch using an exponential pitch sweep. Inspired by BazzISM and Kick 2, its core engine glides from a customizable start frequency down to a fundamental end frequency. Users can precisely shape the pitch drop, body hold, and amplitude decay, while a built-in noise generator injects a high-passed click for initial attack bite. Both amplitude and pitch envelopes are fully customizable across a 20 Hz to 12,000 Hz logarithmic scale.
The plugin's audio processing chain adds harmonic complexity without sacrificing low-end power. A post-oscillator distortion module offers six saturation algorithms—including tube emulation and bitcrushing—that fully bypass at zero drive to keep presets clean. The signal then routes through a DC blocker, an exponential low-pass tone filter, and a flexible two-band biquad parametric EQ for tonal shaping. Finally, a smooth soft-clip output ceiling starting at -1 dBFS prevents digital clipping while preserving essential transient impact.
Beyond synthesis, the plugin features a hybrid sampling architecture where users can import custom kick samples. An automated pitch detector identifies the sample's fundamental frequency, seamlessly aligning a secondary sine sub-oscillator underneath to reinforce missing low-end weight. A separate top-layer engine blends transient clicks post-distortion to keep high-frequency attacks pristine. The engine provides robust voice management with both polyphonic and monophonic modes, utilizing a fast-fade voice stealing algorithm to prevent audio pops during rapid MIDI re-triggers.
